Can I install Donor Merchant on Wix?
No. Wix sites run on Wix's own platform, and WordPress plugins only run on WordPress. If Wix Donations doesn't cover what you need, the usual route is a small WordPress donation site on a subdomain such as give.yourdomain.org, linked from your Wix menu. Start by checking whether the Wix app is enough, because for many groups it is.
How do I add Wix Donations?
In the editor, click Add Apps, search for the Wix Donations app and click Add to Site. Wix adds a Donations page with a donation form and a Thank You page. You can keep that page, rename it, or place the donation form widget anywhere else on the site.
Each campaign has its own settings:
- Amounts: suggested amounts, and a toggle that lets donors enter their own amount between a minimum and maximum.
- Frequency: one-time only, or add recurring gifts from the Intervals drop-down (weekly, monthly or yearly).
- Goal: the Campaign goal toggle sets a target, with a choice to keep accepting gifts after the goal or deadline.
- Fees: an option that shows donors a checkbox asking them to cover the transaction fee. It is on by default for new campaigns.
- Design: fonts, colors, field backgrounds and the donate button can be styled to match your site.
You can run as many campaigns as you like. Gift totals per campaign show in the Donations tab, individual gifts in the Orders tab, and recurring gifts in the Subscriptions tab. Donors who sign in to your site's Members Area can open My Subscriptions to update their payment method.
Which payment providers work for donations on Wix?
Wix lists three routes: Wix Donations through Wix Payments, PayPal Donate buttons, and the Givebutter app, where Givebutter processes the gifts and holds the donor records instead of Wix.
Wix Payments has rules for donations. Your cause must be registered as a charity in a country where Wix Payments is available, you can't collect on behalf of someone else, and each donation must be tied to a charitable purpose you are carrying out. Wix says it does not support non-registered charities or crowdfunding.
For recurring gifts you need a provider that supports recurring payments. Wix's list includes Wix Payments (credit and debit cards only), Stripe (minimum $0.50 per recurring payment) and PayPal (a PayPal business account is required), plus several regional providers.
What does it cost?
Wix says Wix Donations does not charge additional fees. You pay your plan and your provider's processing fees. Wix Payments' US rates as published in October 2026:
| Payment type (US, Wix Payments) | Fee |
|---|---|
| Standard cards | 2.9% + $0.30 |
| American Express | 3.7% + $0.30 |
| PayPal through Wix Payments | 3.49% + $0.49 |
A $100 gift on a standard card costs $3.20 in fees. Rates differ outside the US, and Wix's fee page doesn't mention a nonprofit discount. Plan prices vary by region, so check wix.com/plans and the Wix Payments fee page before you decide.
What can't Wix Donations do yet?
Wix's own help center lists these as feature requests, which means they aren't available today:
- Tax receipts: "Currently, Wix Donations does not offer automatically-generated donation receipts for your donors, including the necessary details for tax refund purposes."
- Custom fields: "Currently, it is not possible to add custom fields to your donation forms." So no tribute names, employer matching question or extra questions on the form.
- Anonymous gifts: donors can't stay anonymous in your records.
Wix publishes these request pages and they change when features ship (the cover-the-fees option started as one), so check them again before you decide.
When is Wix Donations enough?
It is a good fit when you are a registered charity that qualifies for Wix Payments, you mostly take one-time and monthly gifts, and you already send year-end letters from a spreadsheet or another tool. A small group with a few dozen donors may never need more. Keeping donations on the same platform as the rest of the site means one login and one bill.
When does a WordPress donation page make sense?
- You need receipts and annual statements. Donor Merchant creates printable receipts and a yearly statement for each donor, and donors can open both from a donor portal reached by an emailed sign-in link. Donors giving monthly through Stripe can update their card or cancel from there.
- You need questions on the form. Tributes, an employer matching question, designations to a fund, and your own custom fields.
- You record checks and bank transfers. Offline gifts go into the same donor history as online ones.
- You claim Gift Aid in the UK and need a declaration with each gift. See Gift Aid.
- Wix Payments won't take your donations. Donor Merchant uses your own Stripe or PayPal account. They have their own eligibility rules, so read them first.
How do I link my Wix site to a WordPress donation page?
- Build the donation page. On any host that runs WordPress 6.2 or later with PHP 7.4 or later and HTTPS, install Donor Merchant from Plugins > Add New, connect Stripe or PayPal (getting started), and add the Donation Form block or
[donor_merchant]to a page. - Create the subdomain. Add one record named
give, A or CNAME, whichever your host gives you (full walkthrough). If your domain is managed by Wix, go to the Domains page in your Wix account, click the Domain Actions icon next to the domain, and click Manage DNS Records. Click + Add Record under A (Host) or CNAME (Aliases), entergiveas the Host Name, paste your host's value, then click Save and Save Changes. Wix says this can take up to 48 hours. If your domain is connected to Wix by pointing, these steps don't apply: add the record at the company that holds your domain. - Add a menu link. In the Wix Editor, click Pages and Menu, click Add Menu Item, choose Link, pick the web address option, paste the URL, click Done, name the item "Donate" and click Done. Wix has more than one editor (Wix Editor, Wix Studio and the newer Harmony editor), and labels differ between them. A button linked to the same web address works too.
- Match your colors. Copy the hex code of your Wix button color. In WordPress, go to Donor Merchant > Settings > Forms > Form style, choose a custom color, paste it, and pick the closest button shape. Put your logo on the WordPress site so donors know they haven't left you.
- Turn on webhooks and test. Recurring renewals rely on webhooks. Run a test gift in Stripe's test mode first.
Can I embed the form in Wix instead of linking?
In the Wix Editor, Add Elements > Embed Code offers Embed HTML and Embed a site, which place outside content in a frame on your page. We recommend a link instead. In a frame, Apple Pay needs the frame to be allowed to request payment and the domain to be registered, PayPal opens popups, and Safari blocks third-party cookies inside frames by default. Wix also notes that some sites refuse to be embedded. We don't promise an embedded form will work for every donor; a link does.
Checked against the Wix Help Center in October 2026. Wix menus differ between its editors and change over time; if a label differs in yours, look for the equivalent option.
