Why this plugin exists
Donor Merchant came out of years of building WordPress sites for small organizations. When a nonprofit wanted monthly donors, its free donation plugin usually needed a paid plan costing hundreds of dollars a year.
Recurring giving matters most to the organizations least able to pay for software, so in Donor Merchant it is free, along with one-time gifts, fee recovery, tributes, donor records, receipts and reports. The plugin is GPL-licensed and takes no platform fee. Paid plans add support for organizations that want it.
Principles
- Your donors are yours. Records are stored in your database and export to CSV in one click.
- Security is in the free plugin. Card data never touches your server, totals are checked on the server, and webhooks are signed.
- One plugin. No add-ons and no ads in your dashboard.
- Accurate comparisons. Comparisons cite published pricing with dates, and say when a competitor fits better.
Who owns and builds it
Donor Merchant is owned, built, and maintained by Matt McWilliam, the developer behind MJM Web Design (mjmwebdesign.com). After years of building and maintaining WordPress sites for small businesses and nonprofits - the kind of organizations this plugin is for - he created Donor Merchant as his own independent product, not on behalf of a client. Both this site (donormerchant.com) and MJM Web Design are his.
The plugin is published on WordPress.org under the account mattmcwilliam, and correspondence is handled at [email protected]. That email shares a single owner with donormerchant.com - one person, two projects.
